Nepal faced mega-earthquake (7.6 magnitude) on April 25, 2015 including Dozens of aftershocks including a 6.7 magnitude earthquake on 12 May, 2015 and these devastating natural disasters killed about 8,700 people and more than 22,000 people injured. Few more are still missing. Almost 90 percent houses in Gorkha district collapsed and remaining 10 percent are also partially damaged/cracked and need to be rebuilt or repaired.
Most people are living under tents or open sky and just starting to prepare temporary shelter with the small support from the government of Nepal. Few people are receiving support from different national and international institutions to build their shelter. People’s daily income activities are disturbed which is misbalancing their economic status. Community people are facing financial problems for their children’s education (Tuition fee, stationeries, uniform, school bag, day snacks and so on). Natural disaster is common, however, such devastating disaster brings difficult circumstances and more challenging situation to recover or go back in normal life. In such situation, additional support from others (individual or institution) is needed beyond the normal development activities. In that context, community people wanted direct support for reconstruction of their home, school building, literacy and so on. Since CLCs, women groups could not function as earthquake messed up their lives. If CLCs could have functioned well, it could organize woman's group to run smoothly through training, family literacy classes and many other activities in coordination of VDCs and other NGOs, CBOs. And to strengthen CLC, facilitator as a core person of CLC should be made capable and empowered to function CLC smoothly. In this context we found lacking CLC Facilitator manual to use as guiding materials to handle CLC well. In order to address this situation CLC Facilitator manual has been essential and the UNESCO Kathmandu is keen to develop CLC Facilitator manual for sustainable development and reinforcement of the CLCs in Gorkha District.
